postheadericon Vacation At Kings Canyon

by Anton Maverick

Kings Canyon in the Watarrka State Park is a beautiful natural rock formation with many other interesting elements thrown in. It's a massive canyon and can be simply reached from Alice Springs by road. The Kings Ravine Resort mixes into the environment and offers luxury accommodation as well as camping so you will be able to stay and explore the Ravine in a camper.

The Canyon offers a selection of striking vistas both within and round the Canyon. You can walk round the top of the ravine and look down into the space below. Or, look at the more desolate, desert landscape so far as the eye can see into the distance. It is roughly 270 metres from the head of the canyon to the bottom and you can hike up, down and around as you choose.

At the base of the ravine, there's a permanent waterhole, presenting a deep contrast to the desert landscape. It is something of an oasis and appropriately called the Garden of Eden, complete along with cycad palms. If you continue exploring you will find some other rock formations which look just like real bee-hives and these ave been called the Lost Town.

In appreciating the natural beauty of the area, the Resort sits unobtrusively under the trees and naturally blends into the rockfaces. After a day of hiking and exploring, the Resort offers some well deserved comfort, no matter the state of your position. There's a caravan park and budget lodge as well as the more up market accommodation.

Once you've finished taking in the wonders of Kings Canyon, you may either return to Alice Springs, or if you are travelling by 4WD, you can drive the back way through to Uluru without the necessity to return to the Stuart Highway and Alice Springs. You will need to get a permit to go through Aboriginal land from the Kings Ravine Resort though. Kings Canyon is a much more popular destination now that the Resort has supplied some much appreciated comforts and a must do for a trip to Central Australia.
